At Ranvilles Infant School, History inspires children to become curious about the past and understand how it has shaped the world around them. Through engaging, enquiry based projects, children develop their knowledge of significant people, events and periods in British and world history while building a secure understanding of chronology. Our carefully sequenced curriculum encourages children to ask questions, investigate evidence, recognise similarities and differences, and explore concepts such as change, continuity, cause and consequence. Learning is enriched through timelines, local history experiences, visits and opportunities for independent enquiry, enabling children to make meaningful connections between the past, their own lives and the wider world. As they progress from EYFS through Key Stage 1, children develop the confidence to communicate their historical understanding using appropriate vocabulary and evidence. By the time they leave Ranvilles Infant School, they are enthusiastic, reflective and increasingly independent historians who can think critically about the past and appreciate its impact on the present.
